Kasauli is about 65 km from Chandigarh and takes ninety minutes to two hours. It is the shortest escape from the plains that still feels like a hill station, which is exactly why it fills up on Sundays.
The road to Kasauli
NH-5 to Dharampur, then the short climb up to Kasauli. The whole route is tarmac and easy; even a hatchback is entirely comfortable. The final few kilometres are narrow, so a smaller car is genuinely easier to park once you arrive.
Because it is so close, this is the one route where leaving early matters less. But Kasauli parking is limited, so a Sunday afternoon arrival can mean a long walk from wherever you find space.
Where to stop on the way
Outstation rules apply on this route. Timber Trail at Parwanoo on the way up. Gilbert Trail once you are there, which is flat and takes about an hour. Sunset Point if you time the drive back for evening.
