Six routes, shortest first
Distances are one-way from Chandigarh. Drive times assume an early start.
The one most people do first. Close enough for a two-day weekend, and the road is tarmac the whole way. A Creta at ₹4,000 a day is the car we hand over most often for this.
Ninety minutes. The only hill station near Chandigarh you can genuinely do and be home for dinner.
Read the route →A full driving day. Worth taking the Scorpio N if there are four of you.
The serious one. June to September only, and an SUV is not optional.
The other direction, and closer than most people assume. Dehradun is four hours on a flatter, easier road than Shimla. Read the route →
Picking the trip and the car
Two questions decide most bookings.
One day means Kasauli, Pinjore or Morni. Two days means Shimla or Dehradun. Three or more opens up Manali, and Spiti needs five to be enjoyable rather than a race.
Everything except Spiti is tarmac, so any car in the fleet manages it. Spiti past Gramphu genuinely needs the Scorpio N or the Hilux 4×4.
Per kilometre rather than by a daily cap: ₹12–18 per km for sedans, ₹16–24 per km for SUVs, confirmed with your quote.
Not for any of these routes in a private car. Himachal green tax is payable at the border and is a small amount.
